Mood And Motion Spans Genres, Disciplines

European company's innovative approach to communications
spans genres, disciplines and boundaries.

By forming MOOD AND MOTION -- formerly known as Neue Sentimental Film -- the Gläser brothers, Tom (an advertising photographer) and Mark (an architect and set designer), have fulfilled an ambitious dream: setting milestones in advertising film production. When the company went public in 2000, they became international, and its business activities grew to span new divisions: Corporate and Entertainment & TV.

Now, the MOOD AND MOTION Group is one of the European market leaders in the advertising film production sector, together with its work in corporate identity, entertainment and TV.  The group comprises a team of employees who share the same values, talents and a feeling of belonging. They are all characterized by their trust in a successful company and its CEO, Tom Gläser, who is now the spokesman for the holding company.

The executives at MOOD AND MOTION believe that creativity is a strong and peaceful force, one that can be used to create a better world. They see the freedom to use striking images and words to make statements and to communicate – going beyond all of the boundaries – is a privilege. "Because our yesterdays determine our tomorrows, we believe in sustained values," says Gläser, "such as cooperation, not opposition, variety, not monotony, tolerance, not marginalization and individuality, not uniformity. Our passion for our work and dealing with everyone involved in it is where all of our projects start. If you want to help us to fashion a world that’s worth living in, you’re welcome to join us at any time."

At MOOD AND MOTION, communication takes two. That’s the only way that something sustainable can be created. Says Gläser,"In order to allow our work to leave unique impressions all over the world, we need a global network of partners. That is why we think globally, in synergies, while retaining the individual nature and flexibility of small units that work in our network at interesting, strategically key locations. Our service partners are in constant contact, in order to be able to offer our customers the tried-and-trusted MOOD AND MOTION Group quality all the time. That allows workflows to function smoothly and capacity to be optimally used, and it allows us to live a common mindset in all of our divisions, from commercials to corporate films to entertainment."

To allow the company to structure its wide-ranging offering and meet the demands of its extensive portfolio of clients, MOOD AND MOTION has three divisions: Commercial, Corporate and Entertainment.

In the commercials realm, MOOD AND MOTION leads the market in European advertising film production, and yet approaches every job as something entirely new.  "Impressing people and making convincing messages from brands and products means far more to our directors, crews and producers than just filming commercials," Gläser says. The merger with the Telemaz Group in the spring of 2008 has allowed MOOD AND MOTION  to add three other locations to its existing facilities of Neue Sentimental Film in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin: Telemaz Commercials in Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf. MOOD AND MOTION also has a presence in Austria, with Neue Sentimental Film Vienna and FRAMES. The Spanish and South American markets are served by the subsidiary The Lift, with offices in Barcelona, Madrid, Mexico City and Buenos Aires. MOOD AND MOTION'S Green Olive Films operates in Greece, Cyprus and Turkey.

Gläser adds that expansion into Asia is a natural next move for the MOOD AND MOTION companies, and he expects to undertake such a move once the global economy starts to turn around. "We are completely convinced that it’s a great market and that we should be there," he says.  "We should try to transfer our knowledge to companies in China in particular, because that’s part of being there. They are expecting that, from your side, you bring in expertise while they bring in new business."

Gläser believes the smart way for MOOD AND MOTION to enter the market is in partnership with a locally based company, in which they would jointly develop a roster of Asian talent that could be aided and augmented by the MOOD AND MOTION talent from Europe. "We think that's exactly what partners in China would expect from your side. We think there is a lot of interest in the Chinese market, and in Asia in general, for working with European or American talent."

Certainly the international client list for the company's commercial production work reflects a broad mingling of brands from around the world.  It includes such marketers as Allianz, Aral, ATG, Audi, Bank of Cyprus, Bayer, Beiersdorf, BMW, Burger King, Cadbury, Citibank,Citroen, Coca Cola, Daimler Mercedes-Benz, Deutsche Bahn, Deutsche Bank, Dr. Oetker, Ferrero, Ford Motor Company, Gösser, Häagen Dasz, Kraft Food, Levis, L’Oréal, Lufthansa, Miele, One Telecommunications, Panasonic, Philip Morris, Postbank, Procter & Gamble, Renault, Schwarzkopf, Siemens, Sony, Strabag, T-Mobile, Toyota, Unilever Bestfood, Volkswagen, and more.

The innovative corporate division of MOOD AND MOTION, which specializes in "identity engineering" for companies, was created in 1998 and has created innovative new forms for corporate and brand communication. Explains Gläser, "It meets the need to make brands and corporate philosophies tangible for the widest variety of target groups, allowing them to experience the emotions behind them. Theme parks, roadshows, image films, corporate identity tools, trade fair stands -- for all of them, GROUP.IE, our independant subsidiary formed in 2001, offers a large number of end-to-end communication solutions, spanning all of the development stages from the task itself through to implementation, providing individual, end-to-end support."

Clients of MOOD AND MOTIONS's corporate division include Allinaz Global Investors, Atelier Markgraph, BMW Brilliance Automotive, Daimler-Benz, Deutsche Bank, FIFA, HarmanBecker, Huyndai, Keiper Recaro Group, Mercedes-Benz, RubinChapelle, Schaeffler Group, Schweizer Fernsehen, Siemens, Stiftung Deutsche Sporthilfe, Tente, Verband Deutscher Werbefilmproduzenten VDW, Volkswagen, VW Autostadt, ZDF and others.

MOOD AND MOTION's Entertainment/TV & New Media division focuses on producing TV formats, documentaries, feature films, and in particular multimedia applications such as virals or interactive formats. Neue Sentimental Film Entertainment Vienna (currently also including the division in Mexico), develops and produces demanding TV programs and serves the specialist genre of fictional TV programs (films, series, features, documentaries). The portfolio includes TV productions for the Austrian TV channel ORF, with cult shows such as "Sendung ohne Namen," "Heaven" and "Sunshine Airlines," documentaries about "Elias Canetti," "Parsifal" and "The Flying Dutchman," and art events, with particular highlights being the concept for and the opening of the Wiener Festspielwoche festival in Vienna.

The company has a strong social conscious, and is determined to help improve conditions around the globe. Says Gläser, "Dreams alone won’t make our world better. It’s our home and yours. We move freely around our world. And if you want to do that, you have to give something back. We made a start in South Africa in 1999 with Feedback, a non profit organisation. Since we use the country’s beauty as a backdrop for our clients’ brands and products, we formed Feedback as a way to collect and distribute more than 14 million meals each year to make sure that countless children, invalids and families can survive."

"At the beginning, only excess food from the film sets was collected and distributed," Gläser explains.  "Now, supermarkets, bakeries and food manufacturers supply Feedback with excellent food for the poorest of the poor. That sates their hunger, and also makes sure that parents and children can spend their attention on visiting schools, getting an education, and other key issues. The long-term target is to use the nutrition and development program founded in 2004 to educate and school the needy, enabling them to be more independent in taking care of themselves in the future. If you dream of a better world, too, you can take the first step and support Feedback."
